Church of San Roque:

The Church of San Roque is located in the urban center of Tinajo. It was built as a hermitage in the second half of the 17th century (1679) under the patronage of San Roque, at the instigation of the beneficiary and vicar of the island of Lanzarote Guillén de Bethencourt. It was enlarged around 1738, after the volcanic eruptions that devastated this region of Lanzarote, and converted into the second parish church on the island on June 29, 1792, by the prelate Antonio Tavira y Almanzán. Throughout the 19th century, renovation and enlargement works were carried out on this parish church. The first sundial on the Island of Volcanoes is located on the roof. It is still visible today and marks the shadows of the sun. According to one of its inscriptions, this piece was placed on May 20, 1851, by F. R. Fernández. The initials F. R. Fernández correspond to a resident of the Vegueta area (municipality of Tinajo) and a professional sailor who, on one of his last trips to the African coast, built the clock on the ship and gave it to the church of San Roque de Tinajo in 1851.
