Hermitage of Our Lady of Regla

Hermitage of Our Lady of Regla

The hermitage of Nuestra Señora de Regla in La Vegueta (Yuco) was built by popular subscription towards the end of the 17th century. Inside it is possible to find interesting paintings and a 17th century altarpiece dedicated to the Virgin. Apparently the small, dark-skinned image of Regla was brought by an emigrant who, upon returning from Cuba, said he had bought it from some Franciscans as a token of gratitude for the fortune he had made in Cuba. Other sources indicate that some residents of La Vegueta, when they were fishing, found the image adrift on the seashore.
