September 15: Feast of Los Dolores.

"In recent years, the Festivity of Los Dolores has become a benchmark of popular support for a traditional festival which, without losing the flavour of Canarian culture, has managed to expand its borders beyond the residents of Tinajo and Lanzarote, becoming the most popular festival on the island, highlighting everything that characterises our archipelago. Events such as the "Nanino Festival", "The Regional Craft Fair" attended by the greatest professionals in the sector in the Canary Islands, "Performances by great artists", "The Pilgrimage", etc.

October 12: Pilar Festival

The Virgin of Pilar is a Christian devotion of the Catholic Church, whose image has its main center of worship, on the Island of Lanzarote, in the hermitage of Pilar in "El Cuchillo". The Pilar Festival is celebrated on October 12, the day on which the Holy Mass takes place and the image is processed throughout the town.

Quesería Abuelo Machín

This is a small family cheese factory whose production room is located in the house itself and which since 2021 has been making fresh and semi-soft cheeses from native breed goat's milk. Aridane is a young man who knows the production techniques from his ancestors, maintains a respectful grazing of his cattle in the caldera de las quemadas, takes care of the animals, milking, making cheeses and distributing them to shops.

Ria de La Santa Beach

 

The Santa estuary is located just two kilometres from the fishing village of La Santa.

The estuary was an arm of the sea that crossed the island of Lanzarote and a small islet located in the north-east of Lanzarote.

With the construction of the Hotel La Santa Sport, this small islet was connected to the island of Lanzarote by means of bridges, so the channels for the entry and exit of sea water were closed, thus forming a small lagoon that today is enjoyed by lovers of swimming, windsurfing and water sports in calm waters..

Hermitage of Our Lady of Regla

The hermitage of Nuestra Señora de Regla in La Vegueta (Yuco) was built by popular subscription towards the end of the 17th century. Inside it is possible to find interesting paintings and a 17th century altarpiece dedicated to the Virgin. Apparently the small, dark-skinned image of Regla was brought by an emigrant who, upon returning from Cuba, said he had bought it from some Franciscans as a token of gratitude for the fortune he had made in Cuba.

The fact that agriculture exists in Tinajo and Lanzarote is due fundamentally to the ingenuity, willpower and perseverance of the farmers themselves who for centuries have been forced to work the land without faltering and to overcome the continuous tests to which nature has subjected them; not only in the meteorological order (scarce rain and strong sunlight) but also to skillfully overcome the conditions of the environment.

Hermitage of Los Dolores

The origins of the hermitage of Los Dolores and the devotion to its image are strictly linked to the volcanic phenomena that occurred between 1730 and 1736, as it was built by the collective promise to the Virgin of the inhabitants of Tinajo. Little is known about the primitive construction, as the documents referring to the themes of the Virgin were burned in a fire at the beginning of the 20th century in the archives of the main church of Teguise.

Protected landscape of La Geria

La Geria is a vast natural sand dune of volcanic ash (5255.4 hectares), where the Lanzarote man has managed to take advantage of such a unique terrain, coexisting harmoniously with the environment. In these lapilli fields the farmer has created an agricultural landscape unique in the world; where, based on tenacity and dedication, he has cultivated his vines, fig trees and other fruit trees.

Timanfaya National Park

TIMANFAYA is a natural area that has been little transformed by human exploitation or occupation. Due to the beauty of its landscapes, the representativeness of its ecosystems, or the uniqueness of its flora, fauna or geomorphological formations, it has ecological, aesthetic, educational and scientific values ​​whose conservation deserves preferential attention. In these areas, the use of natural resources may be limited, prohibiting in any case those incompatible with the purposes that have justified its declaration. It was declared a National Park in 1974.

Boca Chica Beach

Boca Chica beach is located on the northern coast of Tinajo, made up of sand and gravel, 200 metres long.

These are beaches located in the north of the island, so the incidence of waves and sea currents makes bathing inadvisable for inexperienced swimmers. On the other hand, when the tides and wave frequencies allow it, it is one of the paradises longed for by surfers from all over the world.
